Fashion was a very early love for me, always appreciating how a specific style or clothing statement will either enhance or take away. Fashion is your story, and youโre the storyteller, so donโt you want your statement to say something good?
I have often wondered why people choose the pieces of clothing that they want to wear. Itโs a lot like selecting elements for your home. Seeing something that says, โhey, I like that,โ and then purchasing it without having a plan or a concept of what looks good and what doesnโt. Only to say after you bought something, โWhat was I thinking?โ After you noticed that it still hangs in your closet unworn.
Home styling or personal fashion styling, itโs all the same thing. Have a plan, seek advice if needed, and not just from your mom. Create an overall building concept for your home basics. First, choose a color palette, select some inspirational images, and then create the all-important floor plan. For personal style, itโs the same thing: have a plan. Select your desired wardrobe color palette, and gather style images that you are drawn to. Styles that scream, โthat is so me.โ
Good style is not a numbers game, Iโm talking size selections or the price point, nor is it a label game. Style is all about the line or silhouette of the garment (how it hangs on your body), the fit (too tight, too loose), the right fabric, and, of course, general care and upkeep (holes, rips, or seams opening).
Most of us donโt fit in the category of โeverything looks good on me.โ So, great style is more than selecting certain labels, or grabbing something just because itโs on sale, or featured on Temu for $4.99. I will shop out of a truck of a car, if itโs the right fabric, shape, and style. Yes, curating a great wardrobe takes time, be selective, and stop feeding the turn and burn fashion cycle. Try selecting pieces that you can get multiple seasons and years out of it.
Not everyone has a sense or eye for style. So, stop working without a net. Get some help. Your style is everything, stop wasting your pretty. I want you to walk into a room and own it!
