The term ‘sigma’ is derived from the work of Dr. Jonathan Haidt, a psychologist who used the Greek letter ‘Sigma’ in his 2013 book ‘The Righteous Mind’ to describe individuals who don’t fit in with either group or individual categories.
The ‘sigma’ label, initially referring to male behavior, is a subversive concept suggesting that some men reject traditional social norms, don’t care about external validation, and prioritize authenticity over social status.
The concept of the ‘sigma female’ emerged later, often in online communities as a response to the ‘feminine mystique’ and societal pressures placed on women. It generally involves embracing qualities like confidence, assertiveness, and independence that are not necessarily in line with traditional feminine expectations.
The concept evolved through online interactions and content, and as of 2022, it has developed an extensive following and a distinct body of work centered on this idea. This includes books, videos, and podcasts exploring self-improvement, personal growth, and empowerment for both men and women.

I truly identify with the “concept” of a Sigma female. My entire life I have been very clear about my inner strength, and resilience to persevere. But at the same time being very confused by others’ need to point out my shortcomings, but unable to recognize their own.
My initial interactions with others are simple and formulaic, being pleasant and easygoing. It’s when we start to see differences in our worlds or possible perceived threats to our peace and safety. That is when divides occur. An armoring up one would say. Going into protection mode, all in the name of fear.
We all do this, but it’s the level and intention of that protection, that I find insidious.
Some, AMOUR UP, to manipulate and control, while others recoil and self-protect. Leaving a small majority of others…who step back and observe, trying to see the bigger picture. Searching for understanding from others, while seeking a common ground, with the complete intention from all parties for fairness.
So, what are the aspects of a Sigma:
- They Prefer Clarification over being Purposely Obtuse, or Avoidant.
- Wants Nothing to Do With Higher Hierarchy.
- Never Chases External Validation Through Others or Likes on Social Media Platforms.
- They’re Agents of Transformation.
- Prefers to Nurture and Support Others, Over Manipulating, Managing or Maligning.
- Extremely Self-Aware and Resilient.
- They’re Enigmatic Because They’re Unpredictable.
- Compassionate one Moment, and Unbreakable Boundaries the Next.
- Not Just Survivors, But Masters at Adaptability.
- Stand Firm in Turmoil Without Arrogance or Defensiveness.
- They Don’t Need to Prove their Power Through Dominance or Manipulation.
- Their Presence Speaks for itself, it is All About Self-Assurance.
- They See Through the Game, and How Others Mask Themselves and Carry Around Heavy Amounts of Toxicity, Without Addressing it. So They Prefer Solitude.
- Never Tolerates Disrespect, From Anyone.
- Obsessed with Freedom and All About Protecting the Essence of Who They Are.
- Nothing or No One Will Dictate the Trajectory of Their Life of Confine Their Freedom.
- They Reject Many Social Norms.
- They Never Base their Life on Other Peoples’ Values and Concepts.
- They Turn Pain into Purpose.
- Control is Suffocating to Them.
- They Prefer to Create Environments that Allow Others to Be Empowered.
- They Hear Others’ Words, But Feel their Attitudes, and Watch Their Actions, for the Truth!
- They are All About Quiet or Silent Power, Though They WILL Speak Up. But, they Never Demand Allegiance, Showmanship, or Needed Protocol.
- Leaving this One Blank For a Reason…it’s Your Life Create it! No One Will Be Able to List Everything, You Need to Fill in the Blanks of Own Your Life!
- They’re Disruptors and Unapologetically Them!
